I am the Proper Officer for the town council. My role includes advising the council on the formation of policy and strategic plans, as well as ensuring its decisions are lawful and appropriately carried out. As well as advising the council, I am answerable to it. I am responsible for the effective management of all the council’s resources, including staff, and I help the council meet its duties in health & safety and human resources. 

I have worked in the local council sector for about 8 years and joined this town council in January 2019. Before becoming a town clerk, I worked for the County Association where I advised parish & town councils in Somerset on the laws and procedures that govern our sector. I have an honours degree in law, I am CiLCA qualified and hold a level 5 qualification in human resources with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD).

Deputy Town Clerk

I have been Deputy Clerk since 2013.  I am CiLCA qualified and assist the Town Clerk in the execution of all Council business to meet the Town Council’s statutory requirements. I will act for the Clerk in her absence.

I manage open spaces within the two towns, including the maintenance of three cemeteries; the day to day duties of the grounds team and I undertake the clerking function for the Planning Committee. I currently manage a fantastic team of six guys who take great pride in their work and help to keep our environment looking great.

Prior to working for the Town Council, I gained a wealth of experience within Somerset County Council where I was instrumental in liaising with district councils and the Police in setting up and supporting 25 Council Information Points across Somerset.

Sally Jones

Responsible Financial Officer

I am the Responsible Financial Officer and I provide day-to-day management of the Town Council’s finances and admin team. I ensure that the Council conducts its financial business properly and I provide it with independent and objective advice. I work with the Town Clerk to ensure that the Town Council complies with its financial policies and follows the Financial Regulations adopted by the Council.

I have worked for the Council since October 2017 and previously worked in the finance industry for 18 years, where I held a range of roles from cashier to area manager. I am currently studying for a Level 3 AAT qualification in accounting.
