The Town Council is inviting local independent retail/service businesses in Burnham-on-Sea to apply for the Shop Front Grants scheme to make visual improvements to their shop fronts, including vacant premises.
What would a grant be given for?
Grants up to £2,000 will be awarded to applicants who meet the criteria in eligible areas of Burnham-on-Sea town centre (including adjacent feeder streets).

Cross Street Adam Street Pier Street Abingdon Street
Esplanade
Some examples of how the grants may be used are:
- Purchasing planters, flowers, or improving landscaping in front of the business
- Painting business façade, trim, or door
- Exterior renovations to improve the appearance of the shopfront
- Improving outdoor lighting
- New or improved signage
- Commissioning outdoor artwork or window art
There is no requirement for the applicant to provide match funding, but applicants are requested to provide a minimum contribution of 10% of the total project cost.
Successful applications would need to complete the project from receipt of funding within 3 months.
Applicants will be required to submit financial information including 2 quotations for the cost of the work to be carried out to support their application and sign a declaration to confirm the relevant licences/permissions are in place. The deadline for applications is midday on the 2nd February 2026, applications received after this time will not be considered eligible.
