Join the Christmas Lights Switch-on parades in Highbridge & Burnham-on-Sea Friday 12 November:

Members of the community are invited to join the Highbridge and
Burnham-on-Sea Christmas light switch on events in this year’s lantern parades.

Last Christmas, due to Covid-19 restrictions, Christmas light switch on events up and down the
country were sadly cancelled and Christmas lights were switched on without ceremony or a
community event.

In 2020 Seed teamed up with Create You in Highbridge to create GlowHome,
a free at-home lantern making project. These lanterns were then switched on in homes at the
same time as the lights, lighting up streets in Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea for neighbours
and friends, and enjoyed by over 2000 people who watched the switch-on live over the internet.
Following on from the success of GlowHome in 2020, Seed announces Glow Lanterns, this
year’s creative activity to run alongside the Christmas lights switch-ons. Lantern making activity
packs are available now to collect free of charge from Create You in Highbridge and several
shops in Burnham-on-Sea. Members of the community are invited to make an eco-friendly
paper bag lantern using these kits which can be carried in the parades taking place at the lights
switch on events. Each lantern pack comes with everything needed to make the lantern and an
LED tealight.

“We realise not everyone is comfortable creating something from scratch, and so we have asked
Create You to provide free drop-in workshops to make floating lanterns leading up to the
events.” Said Scott O’Hara, Director of Seed.

The walk-in lantern sessions are taking place in the shop on Market Street Highbridge, this
Sunday 14th November 1.30-3.30pm, Thursday 18th November 10-12pm and Sunday 21st
November 1.30-3.30 pm. There is no need to book, just turn up on the day.

The lantern parades are taking place on Saturday 20 November in Burnham-on-Sea, meeting at
the Queen Vic Hotel at 5.45pm, and Saturday 27 November in Highbridge, meeting at 4pm at
Highbridge Community Hall. Participants just need to bring along a lantern to take part in the
parade.
