The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations 2022

With the Queens Platinum Jubilee fast approaching there has been a buzzing of activity as plans are being put in place for a weekend of celebrations packed full of fun.The celebration events that are confirmed for the weekend so far in Highbridge and Burnham on Sea are:

Thursday 2nd June

Picnic and Performance of ” The Queen’s Knickers “ by Highbridge Youth Theatre to be held at St John’s Church Hall, Church St, Highbridge at 12.30 – 3pm . For more information contact somersetyouththeatre@gmail.com

1.00pm – Town Crier reads proclamation in Burnham to announce evening lighting of Beacon.

‘Cake & Coronation’ A Jubilee Tea Party. Join a Tea party that will be enjoyed throughout Burnham-on-Sea town -with FREE CAKE for all and a variety of entertainment that’ll keep everyone full to the brim. Children from local schools will be invited to represent their school at lunch tables and a ‘Coronation’ will see a local lady of 70 years or more crowned as our very own Queen. Which special lady would you nominate to become our Queen? You will be asked for your nominations very soon . See you on the day for Tea, Cake & Coronation.

At 4pm in Burnham a ‘Jubilee Parade’ will walk the route (High St, Pier St, North Esplanade, Vicarage St, Victoria St, High St). Come and join in!

‘Jubilee Shopping Trail’ will be held in Burnham-On-Sea Town Centre organised by Burnham Chamber of Trade. Visitors and residents will be invited to follow the Royal-themed trail around the shops to win cash prizes over the four days.

‘Lighting of Beacons’ on Jetty (Burnham) and St Johns Church (Highbridge) with choirs at 9.30 pm-B&H Town Council will also be participating in a ‘song for the commonwealth’ which will be a joint event of local choirs participating, with performances at each beacon lighting ceremony.

Friday 3rd June

‘Jubilee Shopping Trail’ will be held in Burnham-On-Sea Town Centre organised by Burnham Chamber of Trade. Visitors and residents will be invited to follow the Royal-themed trail around the shops to win cash prizes over the four days.

‘Street Party’ marquee street style tea party £10 per person. Music through the decades with Jordan Hill, hog roast at The Windmill Bar and Bistro, Edithmead.

Saturday 4th June

‘Jubilee Sports Day’ demonstrations from local sports and recreation clubs. 10am-2pm, with a coaches vs under 16s football match at 2pm. Highbridge Recreation Ground, Southwell House.

‘Jubilee Vintage Vehicle Display’ will feature vehicles through the reign in Burnham-On-Sea town centre from 10am-4pm. Organised by Burnham Chamber of Trade, this unique free event will feature fantastic classic vehicles in the High Street and Victoria Street. Visitors and residents will be encouraged to see the vehicles and also support local shops and cafes during their visit.

‘Display of Royal Memorabilia’ at Council chambers on Jaycroft rd in Burnham from 10.30am – 4pm Special flower arrangement by Sue Harvey, display of coins, stamps, photos of the Queens visit to the Radio station in Highbridge, display of findings from a detector and most unusual royal memorabilia items.

‘A right royal jubilee jam’ at Morland Community Hub, Highbridge. A modern and Unique event. 1200 – 1700 with live Street art, live DJ, Punch and Judy, Magician, Childrens Tea Party, Book your FREE place.

‘Famous Strawberry Tea’ from 3pm – 5pm at the Hope Baptist Church, Church St, Highbridge

‘Jubilee Celebrations at the Dunstan’. Between 3 and 5pm we are all about the kids with face painting, balloon modelling and pick n mix. At 5 to 7pm we have a trendy solo artist called Kingfast and then 8 to 10pm we have a Weston-super-Mare rock trio called Station2station.

‘A right Royal Rave Up’ Free Outdoor Live Music from the Seven Decades from 5pm-10pm in Market St/ Southwell House, Highbridge

Sunday 5th June

‘Jubilee in the Park’ – will be held in Burnham’s Manor Gardens in the afternoon with live music and jubilee themed entertainment.

 ‘Sunday Jubilee Craft Market’ with activities for all the family – Market St and Southwell Gardens, Highbridge 10am – 2pm

‘Senior’s Jubilee Tea Party’ from 4pm – 6pm – please call 01278 788134 to book your free place. Highbridge Community Hall, Market St, Highbridge.

The Town Council will also be planting 70 trees throughout the towns before March 2023. Initially 3 will be planted with others being planted as sponsors are gained.

Grant Application Kings Coronation Form

The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023, with an additional bank holiday on Monday 8th May 2023.

We are keen to hear from groups/organisations in Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge that are looking to celebrate the Coronation. The Town Council has £1500 available to allocate to events being organised to celebrate the Kings Coronation. The maximum grant to be allocated per event will be £500.

You must meet the following criteria for your application to be considered:

– The event will be open to all members of the public

– The event will be free of charge

– The event will take place within the Coronation weekend

– The event will take place within Burnham on Sea or Highbridge

 

Applications will close on Monday 6th March at midday.

Applications will be considered at the Finance and Resources Committee Meeting on Monday 13th March 2023. You will be notified after this date whether your application has been successful.
