With the recent closure of Lloyds Bank, Cash Access UK have confirmed that a new, multi-bank deposit machine to provide cash and deposit services has been set up at the Tesco store in Burnham-on-Sea. The deposit machine will offer easy access to cash services such as balance enquiries and PIN management to customers of all major banks. It also offers free cash deposits to customers of Barclays, Bank of Scotland, Danske Bank, Halifax, Lloyds, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, TSB, Ulster Bank and Virgin Money with more banks due to join.
Cash Access UK is a not-for-profit company owned and funded by 10 major high street banks. They provide cash and basic banking services in communities across the UK. These include shared banking hubs and deposit services.
Councillor Sharon Perry said, “It is sad to see the closure of the last bank in Burnham-on-Sea last week. I know that many people will miss the easy access to advice and banking services in our town centre. Not everyone has access to digital or online banking and cash is still important to millions of people in the UK.
Whilst it is helpful that Cash Access UK have provided alternative arrangements to provide cash and deposit services, the Banking Hub Working Group will be meeting shortly with a representative of LINK, who assesses our access to banking services, to still pursue the idea of a Banking Hub.”
