Every year the Town Council seeks nominations from members of the public for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the community, made a significant contribution to public life in Burnham or Highbridge and have shown real dedication in helping local residents. Councillors then consider all nominations and make a selection. Civic Awards are presented to these residents at the Mayor’s Civic Award Service.
Mayor Cllr Lesley Millard and first Deputy Mayor Cllr Sharon Perry gave out the awards at a ceremony held at the Princess Theatre and Arts Centre. The event was attended by over 50 people.
There were six winners who were chosen by the Council from a list of nominees submitted by members of the public. The worthy recipients of this years awards were Jim Bass, Gavin Holman (award accepted on his behalf by his Father), Jacqui Strong, Terry Rickard, Andy Brewer and John Kempton. Ian Jefferies was also presented with a special Mayor’s award.
Mayor Cllr Lesley Millard said: “It was my great pleasure to present Civic Awards to this year’s recipients in recognition of their outstanding contributions to our community. The Civic Awards are an opportunity to recognise and value the work of people who have contributed so much to the life of residents in the towns. We are lucky to have many people who go that extra mile and were very pleased at the quality and quantity of nominations.”
A light supper followed the presentations to the wonderful sounds of the King Alfred Concert band .
