NOTICEBOARD

Christmas is coming to Burnham on Saturday 20th November with the annual Christmas lights switch on !

Come join in celebrating the start of the festive season by supporting all the local independent shops and services in our Victorian seaside town on Saturday 20th November.

This year’s community event has free festive entertainment being organised by both Burnham Chamber of Trade and Burnham Retail Group.

There will be a fun filled all day event, full of festive cheer, that kicks off at 10am with fairground rides up and down Victoria Street and the High Street and a Christmas Market of pop up stalls run by local traders and groups with the Town Crier and acts from Burnham Pantomime Society wandering the event organised by Burnham Retail Group.

Burnham Chamber of Trade are running a stage outside the Victoria Hotel from 12.30pm with performances from Burnham community groups, choirs and local schools and there will also be a chance to meet Santa during the afternoon from 3.40pm as he arrives on a train, with gifts for the children.

Kezia Povey, our local X-Factor semi-finalist, will be performing a live line-up of festive songs on the Victoria Street stage at 5.30pm. This is leading up to the Community tree Christmas lights switch-on at 6pm to be performed by Mayor Cllr Mike Facey and well-known Somerset ‘Wurzles’ singer Tommy Banner.

Regional arts group “Seed “will be organising the lantern parade, led by the Mayor, the Town Crier and special guest Santa himself, along the High Street just after 6pm as part of the celebrations and are encouraging families to get creative by making lanterns as part of the event. The parade ends at the switch-on of the Town tree Christmas Tree lights on Old Station Approach next to the fountain.

The festivities continue as local band The River Brew will sing both Christmas and cover songs from a stage close to the Town tree by the Lynton Road/High Street carpark until 9pm .

With shops staying open till 7:30pm it is a perfect opportunity to get some seasonal shopping done.

Let’s get Christmas started together and” Keep it Local “as we Illuminate Burnham!
