Photographer wanted to capture  Moments on Mendip

The Mendip Hills AONB Service, Somerset Film, and Seed Sedgemoor are working together to create a new community-led photographic exhibition of the spectacular Mendip Hills landscape.

The project ‘Moments on Mendip’ will capture and celebrate the twelve special qualities that make Mendip an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on camera.  “The Mendip Hills, with its abundance of caves, gorges, limestone grasslands, drystone walls, stunning views, and ancient human settlements are a unique place of national interest” says project officer Tim Haselden “We hope this project will encourage people to spend time in this exceptional landscape, to learn how to capture effective landscape images that celebrate the special qualities of the Mendip Hills and hopefully inspire others to do the same”

With support from community arts organisation Seed Sedgemoor, The Mendip Hills AONB Service is now seeking a fine art photographer to join the project as lead artist, to capture a series of images and to inspire others to do the same. Community workshops will build photography skills and inspiration encouraging local people to take and submit photos for inclusion in a digital gallery and outdoor projection planned for later this Autumn.  Scott O’Hara, CEO of Seed says “The images will be brought together to transform Cheddar Gorge into a digital gallery through outdoor projections onto rock faces. This will be a spectacular celebration that showcases this wonderful landscape in a new and creative way, alongside the creativity of local people”. It is hoped that through the project local people will find a greater understanding and appreciation of the exceptional Mendip Hills landscape, and that new visitors from more urban local communities will be tempted to enjoy the art and nature of the hills.

The project is supported by Seed Sedgemoor, an Arts Council Creative People and Places project and partner organisations including Windrose Rural Media Trust and The Mendip Society.
