The Great British Spring Clean

The Great British Spring Clean

Thanks to all Volunteers

Thank you for all your time and hard work in making this a really successful event. There were 51 of you out there over the 2 hour sessions held on 3 different days, so 6 hours in total. You picked up an amazing 98 full bags of litter from the streets of Burnham and Highbridge.

On the flip side, sadly that is a lot of litter to find and can have a devastating effect on the environment and it’s not all about the big items; cigarette ends are really quite dangerous, the chemicals released into the environment can indirectly damage animals, particularly marine animals. This is more serious because even cigarettes thrown onto the street far away from bodies of water can get swept into drains and find their way into the water system.

I want to give a special thanks to the Group Leaders who really helped to get this off the ground and attended the necessary meetings. It was with their guidance gained from their experience of Beach Litter picking which helped enormously and is greatly appreciated.

We hope to arrange another ‘litter pick’ before the end of the year so please would you let me know if you are happy for the Town Council to keep your contact details so that we may contact you directly on any future Litter Picks that are organised. If I don’t hear from you then your details will be deleted at the end of June.

In the meantime, if there is an area or the street where you live that you would like to ‘adopt’ to litter pick, please get touch as that would be wonderful news to share to the wider community.

Once again, thank you so much for volunteering, this project couldn’t have been as successful without your involvement.
