Responsible Financial Officer (RFO)

Salary range NJC SCP 30 – 34 from £36,298 – £40,478

(salary depending on qualifications and experience)

plus Local Government Pension Scheme Membership

Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council has a full time (37 hours) vacancy for an enthusiastic and motivated Responsible Financial Officer.  This is a challenging but rewarding role managing the Council’s financial and accounting processes and annual audit.

The two towns of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge share the same administrative parish and are within walking or cycling distance of each other, but each town retains its own distinct character.  The Town Council is well placed to unite and coordinate the actions of all stakeholders, be they local authorities, businesses or residents.

Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge has a combined population of around 20,000. The Town Council’s budgeted annual expenditure is around £800,000 and is responsible for The Old Courthouse, the thriving Princess Theatre, three cemeteries and various events throughout the year including the town’s Remembrance Parade.

Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council are looking for an applicant with a minimum of 2 years proven success of working in a financial role, ideally within a Local Council.  The applicant will have experience in budgetary control, managing income and expenditure, payroll including pensions and VAT.  The successful candidate will be expected to hold a recognised finance or accounting qualification.

You will work from the Town Council Office, as well as remotely (when required/agreed) and there will be occasional attendance at evening meetings. You will take full responsibility for the Council’s Finance & Resources Committee meeting.

Reporting to the Town Clerk, you will have a strong team ethic and a positive, can-do approach. You will be a good communicator, and competent with IT programmes. With strong numeracy skills and excellent attention to detail you will be expected to work accurately within a regulated financial framework.  Honesty and integrity are essential qualities for the successful candidate.

Grant Application Kings Coronation Form

The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023, with an additional bank holiday on Monday 8th May 2023.

We are keen to hear from groups/organisations in Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge that are looking to celebrate the Coronation. The Town Council has £1500 available to allocate to events being organised to celebrate the Kings Coronation. The maximum grant to be allocated per event will be £500.

You must meet the following criteria for your application to be considered:

– The event will be open to all members of the public

– The event will be free of charge

– The event will take place within the Coronation weekend

– The event will take place within Burnham on Sea or Highbridge

 

Applications will close on Monday 6th March at midday.
