97/20/PC Planning Applications considered
A member of the public spoke on behalf of the developer asking the meeting to consider changing their original objections to application 11/20/045 with regards to the style and design which he now felt were compatible with the existing neighbouring properties. He went onto say that style and appearance can be subjective.
A member of the public spoke on behalf of local residents on application 11/20/045 asking the meeting to continue to object to the application. It was felt that there was not enough fundamental change to the layout, overlooking was still an issue and the loss of visual amenity.
11/20/045
Location: | 150 Berrow Road, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, TA8 2PN |
Proposal: | Approval of the details of appearance, landscaping, layout and scale for the erection of 8 dwellings on site of existing outbuilding (to be demolished). |
Case Officer: | Shanta Parsons |
Applicant: | ALMS (Homes) Limited |
Members recognised that a number of changes had been made to the application that the committee had previously highlighted as concerns for example moving plots away from adjacent properties. Support was given to the planting scheme and root protection and members were pleased to see that an order was to be issued before the development commenced to protect the Public Right of Way.
A significant number of residents had written to the Town Council with objections to this development and the meeting felt that these residents should be given the opportunity to take their concerns to the Planning Authority at Development Control Committee.
Comment: To maintainthe Town Council’s previous objections to this application:
That although the developers had tried to address some of the objections by slightly reducing the ridge heights, ground levels and no side windows to plots 6,7 & 8 and removing the balcony on plot 1 and the position of plot 8, the style and character was still out of keeping with surrounding properties and the height and elevations were still significantly above adjacent properties.
11/20/134
Location: | 3 Gore Road, Burnham On Sea, Somerset, TA8 2HL |
Proposal: | Demolition of existing single storey extension and erection of a dwelling with the formation of new vehicular access. |
Case Officer: | Shanta Parsons |
Applicant: | Mr D Channon |
An agent spoke on application 11/20/134 asking the meeting to support the application. The site already has permission for a dwelling to be built but there have been a few alterations to the original application; the whole of the property will be built with brick, the design fits in with the various styles within the street scene.
Comment: No Observations
11/20/117
Location: | Twenty Two Services Limited, Bennett Road, Highbridge, TA9 4PW |
Proposal: | Erection of a commercial building. |
Case Officer: | Liam Evans |
Applicant: | Twenty Two Services Ltd |
Comment: Support on grounds that the application would provide additional employment and the design of the building was in keeping with the surrounding units. The support is subject to a favourable outcome of the Ecologists report regarding the protection of the Great Crested Newt and to consider the close proximity of the rhyne, as it appears on the plans to be very close to the building and access by the Drainage Board would be required for the clearing.
11/20/123
Location: | Land To The West Of, Brent Knoll Animal Centre, Brent Road, Brent Knoll, Highbridge, Somerset, TA9 |
Proposal: | Continued use of land for combined agricultural and equestrian uses. Retention of stables, steel storage container, feed store and ménage (completed). Retention of agricultural feed and machinery store (under construction). |
Case Officer: | Liam Evans |

Comment: Support on grounds that the application would provide improved commercial amenity subject to the approved Ecologists report regarding the protection of bats.

There appeared to be very little change to the application considered previously therefore it was agreed to maintain the Town Councils previous comments.
Comment: Members Objected on the grounds that that the design would have a detrimental effect on the visual amenity and street scene. Having two properties built in such a small space albeit partially underground, represents an overdevelopment of the site. There was concern over flood risk as that the bedrooms were on the lower ground floor.
