38/21/PC       To consider the Sedgemoor District Payphone Consultation

The meeting considered the payphone consultation and agreed to object to the removal of the three payphones in Burnham-on-Sea on the grounds that he payphone in Princess St. has a Theatre and Library nearby and Pier St. has a Taxis Rank and bus stop which is well used by residents and tourists. They are both in prime positions and also situated at opposite locations within the town. The payphone at Seaview Road is very close to the beach where mobile reception can be poor.

Due the restrictions of movement during the COVID pandemic, the data for the past 12 months cannot be representative of normal usage, therefore the meeting requested that they are retained for the foreseeable future

The meeting suggested looking into introducing directional signage to these phone boxes so awareness of their locations is obvious especially in an emergency.

39/21/PC       To consider a response to give permission to a production company to rent space at Pier Street Car Park Burnham-on-Sea in order to carry out filming

The meeting agreed to support the request to rent space within the area shown on the map. It was highlighted that coaches would probably not be operating until June and that it was only five bays being used by the production company. Motorhome, boat and trailer bays would still be available.

40/21/PC       Prior to the meeting the Clerk had circulated an email from Somerset County Council, Transport Policy team wanting to deliver a series of improvement schemes on a stretch of the A38 which runs from the Edithmead Roundabout at Junction 22 of the M5 in Sedgemoor to the South Bristol Link (Colliters Way). A consultation period will start on 12th April.

The meeting asked the clerk to request what detailed improvements are to be made and that the council would welcome a presentation at an early point in the consultation period.
