24th February 2021 Burial Minutes

Minutes of the meeting held on 24th February 2021 at 7pm via video conferencing.

Present: Cllr Chris Allen (Chairman), Cllrs Andy Brewer, Sue Harvey, Janet Keen, Colette Winfield and Cllrs Alistair Gordon from Burnham Without Parish Council (no voting rights) with Lorna Williams (Deputy Clerk) in attendance.

There were no members of the public was present.

03/21/BC       Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the Burial Committee meeting held on 11th November 2020 were approved as a correct record and signed by the Chairman.

04/21/BC       To receive an update on the Management and Maintenance of the Cemeteries

The meeting noted the main central footpath had been resurfaced with tarmac. The meeting heard that quotes had been received to remove the fallen Beech and neighbouring Pine Trees and this work was completed on 21st February. An assessment of the remaining Beech root was required but in the meantime barriers remain around the tree root hole.

Interment Statistics were tabled at the meeting and the meeting NOTED there was no significant change in the number interments in 2020.

The meeting had a short discussion regarding visiting the cemeteries and agreed that once restrictions would allow the Clerk should timetable visits, starting with Westfield Road cemetery.

Cllr Keen suggested contacting an ecologist to invite to a future meeting to discuss suitable pollinators and trees that could be planted in the cemeteries.  

05/21/BC       To Consider the requirements of CCTV at Brent Road and Highbridge Cemetery

                        The meeting received a report and three quotations and considered the various options. It was agreed use contractor B, with the provision of 4 cameras for Brent Road and 1 camera for Highbridge Cemetery overlooking the Caretakers building. The total cost for installation would be £1963.28 ex vat.

06/21/BC       To note the Management Reports and Ear Marked Reserves

                        The meeting NOTED the Income and Expenditure and Ear Marked Reserves as at 18th February 2021

It was noted that the next meeting of this committee will be held on Wednesday 16th June 2021 at 7pm.

Grant Application Kings Coronation Form

The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023, with an additional bank holiday on Monday 8th May 2023.

We are keen to hear from groups/organisations in Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge that are looking to celebrate the Coronation. The Town Council has £1500 available to allocate to events being organised to celebrate the Kings Coronation. The maximum grant to be allocated per event will be £500.

You must meet the following criteria for your application to be considered:

– The event will be open to all members of the public

– The event will be free of charge

– The event will take place within the Coronation weekend

– The event will take place within Burnham on Sea or Highbridge

 

Applications will close on Monday 6th March at midday.
