The meeting had differing views regarding this application. Some thought it was good to have a well-known national company coming to the town whilst other members thought it may hit the viability of existing small independent food outlets and thought it was out of character of the town. All were pleased that the application would bring an empty building back into use. There was a thorough discussion regarding the opening time of 3am requested on the application.

Cllr Clayton proposed that the meeting should object to the 3am opening time and proposed that it should be until 1am in-line with existing takeaways.

Cllr Harvey proposed an amendment that the opening time should be until 12am. A vote was taken on the amendment on which there was no agreement.  It was agreed that the first proposal of 1am would be requested on the observation.

Comment:    Support on the grounds that the application would provide additional local employment and improve the amenity and viability of the local area subject to a change in the requested opening hours from 3am to 1am as this would be more in line with comparable establishments within the town. There must be consideration for the residents that will be living in the newly built retirement flats within 200 meters of this takeaway.

Members were very pleased that an empty business property was being brought back into use however they had concerns that the proposed new door was out of character with the rest of the building. The design and style is contrary to the Town Council’s Neighbourhood Plan CB2.

Cllr Brewer left the meeting
